CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Thanks for checking out our Certification Program.

We have two levels of certification.

I. To become a Certified Practitioner

Practitioners qualify to facilitate on-going trance groups. They integrate ecstatic body postures with their own training and experience in related fields of study, such as psychotherapy, dance, or art. They may assist in the on-going research into ecstatic trance conducted by the Institute.

1. Participate in an introductory workshop (conducted by a certified instructor).

2. Participate in two advanced workshops (conducted by a certified instructor) for a total of ten different advanced trances.

3. After completing workshops, write a letter documenting your current experience with the postures. Include workshop dates and instructors' names. Add a letter of recommendation from a workshop instructor. Tell of other related experiences with non-ordinary states of consciousness. Explain why certification is sought. Tell how you intend to continue working with ecstatic postures. Include brief accounts of your experiences in 15 different trance postures. Send the letter to:

Cuyamungue Institute Certification Committee
Jackie Haworth
3131 Walden Ravines
Columbus, OH  43221

II. To become an Certified Instructor

Instructors teach the methods and insights developed through the Institute and contribute data that supports on-going research at Cuyamungue Institute. They must have a dynamic and compassionate personality, good communication skills, and good experience in handling groups. Instructors may teach workshops, train other practitioners, mentor trainees in the Instructor Program, have their workshops advertised in the C.I. Newsletter, and network with other organizations on behalf of the Institute.

1. You must conduct a rattling group of at least one year's duration. This group must have met at least twelve times. You must record the trance experiences of each member. This group should be maintained throughout your training.

2. You may advance from Practitioner level after two years have elapsed from your first workshop. You should seek guidance from a certified instructor, who may become your mentor. You should advise the Board Certification Committee of your interest in becoming a certified instructor. The Board will assign a mentor upon request. Your letter of intent should be addressed to:

Cuyamungue Institute Certification Committee
Jackie Haworth
3131 Walden Ravines
Columbus, OH  43221

Your letter of intent should include documentation of your training to date, a summary of your rattling group process, a statement of how you intend to continue working with the postures, and a letter of recommendation from a certified instructor who taught a workshop you attended.

3. You must participate in at least three Introductory Workshops and two Advanced Workshops in addition to those completed at the Practitioner level, and two Masked Trance Dances (at least one of which must take place at the Institute). Each workshop must consist of at least five postures.

    a. You must assist a certified instructor at four workshops (one of which must be a Masked Dance)

    b. Your mentor must observe you teaching two postures

4. You must keep a trance journal for two years, which you will discuss with your mentor.

5. You must complete readings from the current reading list, and review videos, and audiotapes.

6. You must attend any mandatory training by the Cuyamungue Institute.

7. You must maintain a paid membership in Cuyamungue Institute.

8. You must work with your mentor to complete any further studies that might be needed.

9. At the completion of these tasks, your documentation will be reviewed by your mentor and forwarded by your mentor to the Certification Committee for review and approval by the Board of Directors of the Cuyamungue Institute.
